[Chess] Knight's movements

I never knew why every chess book says that knight's movements resembles Cyrillic/Greek letter "Г".

Rather, knight attacks cells around in the shape of circle:

|.|*|.|*|.|.|.|.|
|*|.|.|.|*|.|.|.|
|.|.|+|.|.|.|.|.|
|*|.|.|.|*|.|.|.|
|.|*|.|*|.|.|.|.|
|.|.|.|.|.|.|.|.|
|.|.|.|.|.|.|.|.|
|.|.|.|.|.|.|.|.|

When a knight moves, it's like a rolling/tumbling wheel:

h |.|0|.|0|.|.|.|.|
g |0|.|.|1|0|1|.|.|
f |.|.|1|.|.|.|1|.|
e |0|.|.|.|0|.|.|.|
d |.|0|1|0|.|.|1|.|
c |.|.|.|1|.|1|.|.|
b |.|.|.|.|.|.|.|.|
a |.|.|.|.|.|.|.|.|
   1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8

( "0" - for previous attacked cells, "1" - for next. )
